Founded in 2003 by Maggie Wang, Modern Star Silk specialises in the production of fine silk fabric, apparel and accessories.

Modern Star Silk is a forward-thinking, vertical silk house with three production facilities in China, and design and trend studios in Milan and Los Angeles.

Integrating heritage fabrics and the latest technology, we also create and offer an extensive library of custom prints for luxury, classic and contemporary brands worldwide. Utilising two dedicated silk farms in China, we are proud to use sustainable fabric that is kind to the environment.

Modern Star Silk joined forces with a Milan-based trend forecaster who creates visionary prints for the company. As part of the team, she also conceptualises colors and design direction, keeping us years ahead of the competition. With our combined creative forces from our global design team, we envision the future for our clients.

Twenty years later, Modern Star Silk has offices across four continents.

Our Values

BENEFITS OF SILK

We consider silk an integral piece of the sustainable luxury lifestyle, a detail that elevates the everyday.

Not only does it feel like a second skin, but silk fiber is touted for its breath-ability, temperature-regulation, and hypoallergenic qualities, making it the gold standard for clothing.

Silk is very breathable because of its natural elements which allow oxygen to pass through freely. You’ll feel cool in the summer, and warm in the winter.

SILK vs SYNTHETIC

Silk also possesses many skin and hair benefits: its tightly woven fibers help the skin retain moisture, and its smooth texture protects hair from breakage while promoting shine.

Silk is made up of just two natural proteins: fibroin and sericin.

Compared to the endless list of household products manufactured from synthetic chemicals, it is one of the world’s most natural products.

SUSTAINABILITY

“Designed with Sustainability in Mind” we subscribe to a mindful quality over a mass quantity ethos.

By limiting our production runs and adhering to thoughtful fabric recycling practices MODERN STAR SILK is committed to following a conscious path towards an environmentally positive future.

Silk itself is a highly renewable resource with a much smaller impact on the environment than many other fabrics it breaks down readily as compost, unlike petroleum-based fabrics, which can take up to 500 years to decompose.

SAFE WORK ENVIRONMENT

For MODERN STAR it is absolutely essential that our products are produced in the safest way possible.

Our products are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified and have been tested and guaranteed to be free of all harmful substances, including toxins and irritants, ensuring that the silk products that you bring into your home are safe, natural and healthy.

We partner with ethically responsible silk farms and focus on made to order production runs to avoid excess manufacturing.

SOLAR ENERGY

In an effort to move towards a green source of energy we are currently upgrading our energy systems.

We are in the process of finalising a first phase solar panel installation that will provide our factory with a new source of clean non-polluting energy. Due to it’s zero-emissions process we are committed to the investment of solar energy as a long term sustainable energy source essential to the preservation of the environment.

RECYCLING

MODERN STAR SILK utilizes a water recycling and treatment system in order to uphold our commitment to cleaner production practices and minimising impact on the environment.

We make a concentrated effort to utilise recycled materials for packaging and continue to explore new alternative eco friendly developments for all touch points of the company.

In an effort to minimise waste... We utilise every bit of silk that we produce.

MODERN STAR SILK recycles all scrap and leftover fabrics that are then re-purposed into a recycled filling for our eye masks as well as other home lifestyle products.
